Questions about Hypnosis?

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural, yet altered, state of mind relaxing the conscious mind and facilitating communication between conscious and subconscious mind level of awareness.  As it is a natural state, everyone has the capacity to enter into hypnosis.

Will I remember what happened when I am in hypnosis?
Most likely you will remember everything that happened while in hypnosis.  Sometimes when in a deep trance state, you may not recall consciously all the details.  Any suggestions made to you while in hypnosis are discussed with you prior to or during the process.  You have the ability to edit and approve them.  These suggestions will surface in your conscious mind after the session is complete.  You are not “under” hypnosis like an anesthesia.

Will I Get Stuck in hypnosis?
You cannot get stuck in hypnosis!  It is a natural, yet altered state.  Everyone enters altered states naturally in the course of their everyday activities.  Any time your awareness wanders away from the analytical, reasoning mind you are entering what is called an altered state.  Examples of everyday altered states include taking a nap, daydreaming, watching a movie, or it can be the result if an intense emotion or activity.  Athletes sometimes refer to it as “being in the zone” when such an altered state allows them to perform exceptionally well.

Will I do or say things I do not want to in hypnosis?
You are in complete control as you do not surrender your “will” to the hypnotist. You will not do anything in hypnosis that is outside your moral code.  You choose how you will respond and how much you reveal or divulge in hypnosis.

What if I cannot be hypnotized?
Everyone has the ability to enter this relaxed state of mind if they choose.  In the first session, approximately 95% of clients go into some level of trance.   The client can teach themselves to be responsive to the techniques and deepen their experience.  Sometimes it is a lack of rapport with the Hypnotherapist.  During the initial free 20 minute consultation, we can determine if we are a good fit to work together.

Is Hypnotherapy a replacement for medical treatment?
Hypnotherapy is never intended to be a replacement for the diagnosis or treatment of any psychiatric, psychological, or medical ailment.  In fact, hypnotherapy is complementary or an adjunct to such modalities.  Hypnosis mobilizes inner resources latent in everyone to aid in healing.
